Tawonga’s icon goes up in flames

THE historic Bogong Hotel in Tawonga has been left a blackened shell after being completely gutted by fire in the early hours of Monday morning.

Tawonga CFA captain Steve Rigoni and his crew were first on scene after being alerted at 12.20am and were soon joined by six other brigades to try and combat the fire.

“When we arrived, the fire was fully involved,” Mr Rigoni said.

Mr Rigoni said they were able to save an accommodation area at the hotel but the bar, bistro and function room were completely destroyed.

The fire was under control within several hours.

No one was at the hotel, which is about 125 years old, at the time of the blaze.

What a great time to come and visit, the trout are biting and the weather is beautifully mild. We have on offer our Spring Special – Stay for 3 and Pay for 2, from Monday – Thursday in any of our accommodation. The Bogong High Plains Road has now re-opened, so what a perfect time for some High Country touring and exploring.

Just this weekend we had the Australian Kawasaki GTR Club here for their annual get together. They have had a ball touring the great loop ride over the Bogong High Plains Road and sampling the local gourmet foods.

The Summer season is looking like a beauty again, we still have some Melbourne Cup Long Weekend vacancies for those looking for a break.

Spring time has hit Mount Beauty, the leaves are coming back on the trees, the grass is growing and blossoms are everywhere!

Trout Season

So trout season is firmly upon us!
Now…if Mat can catch this 3.25 pound brown trout from the Park banks, anyone can! The Kiewa River is brimming with hungry fish, come see for yourself!

The Spring time is a brilliant time for camping with the family. The crisp, clear nights are great for campfires and the beautiful sunny days are perfect to wander the valley. There is still plenty of great Spring skiing happening at Falls Creek with 3 weeks of the season remaining.

As the sun comes out, so do the mountain bikers and bush-walkers. Ahhh….Spring really is a wonderful time to visit the Kiewa Valley.

The Loft Yurt is ideal accommodation for groups or perhaps two families wanting to share. It has a large, sunny deck within metres of the river, kitchen, spacious living area and a big couch to relax on.
